Sorry this post has been a tad delayed. I’m currently in Kyoto, Japan, of all places! I just woke up from a wonderful 6 hour nap, andddd It’s 11:26PM here. I’ve been In Japan for 11 days & the jet lag is still so real.
Anyway, it’s about that time to reflect on the things that I’m thankful for : )
Here’s the list of just a few things I’m super grateful for this past week:
- First of all, I’m grateful to be in Japan!!
Wow, the people here are unbelievably respectful, the streets are astonishingly clean, the cities I’ve visited are all so lively, and the food is incredibly delicious.
- I’m grateful for Joe for everything he’s done for me on this trip.
For everything he’s done for me on this trip. For making it happen in the first place. For figuring out the places to stay & things to do. For taking care of the transportation system because I’m entirely lost just thinking about it. For continuing to take a million photos of me despite him being completely annoyed hahaha. For finding the best places to eat using Trip Advisor even though I tease him about relying on it endlessly. For eating McDonalds with me even though it’d make him sick every time. For putting up with my crabbiness when I haven’t slept for more than 3 hours, because I know that’s not easy (I’m sorry!!). Ugh I’m not quite sure how he survived spending so much time with me but I’m so grateful he did.
- I’m grateful for Kiku, the bartender at the Lennon Bar in Kyoto, Japan.
We stumbled upon this bar late one night in Kyoto & decided that we had to stop in for at least one drink. Well, long story short, the menu offered an all-you-can-drink option, so we stayed the entire night until 5AM. Kiku is a lovely Japanese woman whose smile could light up anyone’s day. Her demeanor oozed friendliness and kindness. She grew up & stayed in Kyoto her entire life. Though I couldn’t understand a word of Japanese & she couldn’t understand the words I spoke, we would just look at each other and continue to speak as if the other could understand what we were saying. We would laugh as if we understood each others’ jokes. It was such a good time & my heart felt so full.
- I’m grateful for the chef who made my dinner yesterday night.
Late last night we went for a walk in the pouring rain to get some shabu shabu for dinner around midnight. We walked quite a ways just to find out that this restaurant has been shut down.. Thanks a lot Trip Advisor!! Hahaha. So we then decided to take a detour and head to this ramen shop across the street from our Airbnb. Once again, it was closed. We happened to notice a tiny little restaurant that seemed to still be open, so we headed there. When I say tiny, I mean tinyyyyyy. It sat maybe 10 people total. I’m so grateful for the chef because he made the entire experience that much better. He was so happy and inviting. And not to mention, the food he made was out of this world!! We started with our order of 3 dishes and then some.
These are just a handful of things I’m so appreciative of this past week. There’s so much more that I feel so blessed to have experienced but that would mean this post would be going on forever! I’m about to head out to the restaurant we ate at last night for another late night dinner.. I guess you could say at times I’m a creature of habit..
Hope you all had a lovely week : )
