I woke up extra early today to hit the gym before work because I thought I’d be working until 6pm as usual. I had no intention on attending countdown nye this year. However at work, last minute as usual, I decided you know what, I think I do want to go. I texted my friend to ask if he would be willing to go with me. Fortunately, I know he’s always down.
My work ended up letting me off early around 12:30pm since the office was pretty slow. This worked out perfectly because this meant I had time to run errands and get my outfit for the night.
I stopped by the mall in hopes of finding some windbreaker pants. Is that what it’s called? Anyway, I had no such luck. I did however end up finding a cropped neon yellow reflective jacket from forever 21. I just paired it with my favorite pair of black lululemon Align leggings and some white Adidas Superstars. And of course, some face jewels.
For countdown NYE 2018, I wore shorts and was freezing the entire night, which made it kind of hard to enjoy the festival. That’s why I wanted to make sure I was nice and toasty this year. You live and you learn, ya know?
At around 4PM we were on our merry way to the NOS event center in San Bernardino. Traffic was pretty heavy. It seemed like everyone & their mother was also on their way to Countdown NYE. We got there a little after 6PM. We missed Lost King’s set, but did make it in time to all of the other sets we wanted to see.
We started at the Nebula stage to see Gryffin. We danced to his songs & sang our hearts out to “Feel Good”, then left the stage a bit early to make sure we made it to the Mothership before the Chainsmokers got on stage. We weren’t too sure how they would perform live because we’ve heard mixed reviews. Much to our surprise, they were actually incredible live. We had so much fun at their set. Especially when “Roses” came on. That brought back so many memories from my college frat days, lol. Let’s leave that back in the past…
After the Chainsmokers, we didn’t really have anyone we really wanted to watch, so we spent the next hour exploring the venue. I’m not sure if it was due to me being more appropriately dressed for the weather this year or if it truly was actually a lot colder last year, but I wasn’t remotely cold at all this year. It actually felt super nice walking outside. I was worrying for nothingggg.
Just a few minutes before 10PM, we make our way back to the Mothership stage to watch Said the Sky. I’ve seen his set two other times and each time, he does not disappoint. We maneuver our way up towards the front, and as we were moving up, everyone we spoke to along the way were so incredibly friendly. I love the edm festival scene & the people who are a part of it.
After Said the Sky was Alesso. My phone died right about here, so there are no other photos.. I saw him at EDC Las Vegas last year and had a blast. His set at countdown was nothing less than amazing. He performed the NYE countdown this year. At a minute to midnight the music stopped playing and the entire crowd started to count down. After the clock hit midnight, confetti shot across the crowd & everyone celebrated the new year, 2020! Alesso then resumed his music and everyone was once again dancing the night away.
His set ended at 12:40AM, and we were trying to decide if we wanted to head on over to Area 151 to catch Borgore’s set. We ultimately decided to just stay at the Mothership to watch Galantis. Initially I wasn’t that excited because I only knew their one song “U & I”. Let me tell you, I’m so glad we stuck around for Galantis because their set ended up being my favorite. The energy and music was beyond anything I would’ve imagined to come from them. To say it was fun would be an understatement.
When 2AM rolled around, as usual, we didn’t want it to be over. That’s always the worst part of a music festival. Walking back to your car knowing that you have to wait a while for the next event. But regardless, Countdown NYE 2019 was one for the books.
Cheers to the New Year and to the many festivals that come along with it!!
